Hidden Gems From The B-Side.. Life Side (Week 9)

Tonic 🎶 Head On Straight 🎶 Lemon Parade…

Hey yall… so I have two more great songs from Tonic for you…

“Head on Straight”
• Album: Head on Straight
• Year: 2o02

“Lemon Parade”
• Album: Lemon Parade
• Year: 1996

And here’s some cool facts about the band…

• The name “Tonic” comes from music theory — the tonic is the home note of a scale.. They chose it because they wanted their songs to feel grounded.. centered.. and real…

• “If You Could Only See” became one of the most-played rock songs of the late ’90s.. but the band actually thought deeper tracks like “Lemon Parade” better represented who they really were…

• Emerson Hart (lead singer) wrote many of their songs while dealing with personal struggles — addiction.. recovery.. and relationships — which is why their lyrics hit with that raw… honest edge….

• They turned down being over-polished… Labels wanted them slicker… but Tonic pushed to keep their sound emotional and imperfect — part of why they connect so well with listeners who love real feeling over radio gloss…

• They reunited after a long break because fans never stopped asking for them — and when they came back… they kept the same heart instead of chasing modern trends…

I hope you enjoy 😉 `.°~

Outlaw Roots — A Hank Jr. Series

Where My Sound Began…

Hey yall…
if you check my blog out at all… you already know how much music means to me…

Being a musician and a singer… I love all kinds of sound…
I’ve got influences everywhere — punk… rock… outlaw country… even rap…  Christian music.. of course… and more…
Throw it all in a blender and you pretty much get me… my sound…

But if I’m being real…
it all started for me with outlaw country…
with Hank Williams Jr… aka Bocephus…

Most people know him…
but they usually only know three or four of the big songs…
What a lot of folks don’t realize is — he has hundreds of songs that go even deeper than the famous ones…

To me… his music is pure art…
straight poetry…

And here’s the part that surprises people —
for a guy known for that raw… hard sound…
Hank Jr. wrote some of the best love songs I’ve ever heard…

I learned to play guitar from his music…
I learned to sing from his music…
I honestly know every single one 😁😎…

So… I’m starting something new…

Every Friday…
I’m going to feature one Hank Jr. song —
a weekly spotlight —
to help introduce people to the side of him most never get to hear…

When I really think about it…
he’s probably had more influence on me than any other artist…

His music is special…
and to most of the world…
it’s still a secret…

Hidden Gems From The B-Side.. Life Side (Week 7)

Tonic 🎶 You Wanted More 🎶 Waltz With Me…

Hey yall… today the spotlight lands on Tonic…
They’re excellent if you ask me.. I was so impacted by their music back in the mid-90s… and they’ve stayed one of my favorites through the years.. I still perform their songs to this day… because they live deep in me. They formed in 1993 in Los Angeles.. with Emerson Hart leading the way on vocals… and they’ve always had a way of mixing honesty.. heart.. and melody in a way that just hits life right where it lives…

I’ve got two songs for you today…

🎵 You Wanted More — 1999 — from the album Sugar… (also it was featured on the soundtrack from the movie “American Pie…”)

🎵 Waltz With Me — also from Sugar 1999… a beautiful track…

Hope you enjoy… press play and let the songs do what they do…

Tell me something… Will we be broken down…¿

The Window Song

one broken summer… one beautiful moment…

The Summer of 97`
was rough man…

like couldn’t get any worse…
far as the heart goes…

go read my story First Love
and you will get it… 😁

…but now looking back…
it was beautiful…

So I did three things that summer…

went to work…
played my guitar…
hung out with friends…

killing everything with drugs and alcohol…
straight up gunning my life down…

At the time… I was living in a downstairs apartment…
in the burbs of Atlanta…

That summer… I spent many a day and night…
many an hour…

sitting on the edge of my bed…
right in front of an open window…

strumming my strings…
singing my blues away…

learning new songs…
holding fast to old ones…

I had just finished a concert to myself lol…
when I heard a soft hello…

Then I looked… and there —
at my window —

was the beautiful face
that belonged to the voice…

She lived in the neighborhood…
I didn’t know her…

With my guitar still in my hands…
we talked — through the screen —

She was kind… honest…
open…

She told me that for a month…
she would pass by my window…

hoping I would be there…
singing…
playing…

She told me how much she looked forward to it…
how the music helped her…
because she was dealing with much in her life…

She said she would lean against my building…
beside my window…
just out of sight…

listen for a while…
breathe in deep…

she said my feelings —
that I was giving away in those songs —
she recognized them…
as her own…

She said she’d get lost in my songs…
forget things…
for a little while…

I’ve never had a better compliment…

So I told her…

my window… was her window…
my song… was her song…

and she was welcome… anytime…

Hidden Gems From The B-Side.. Life Side (Week 6)

Our Lady Peace 🎶 Somewhere Out There 🎶 Clumsy…

Hey yall… I got two more OLP songs for you…

Somewhere Out There… 2o02.. from the album Gravity…

Clumsy… 1997… from the album Clumsy…

Just some cool info… they took their name from the novel The End of Alice by A.M. Homes…
It’s meant to feel poetic and symbolic rather than religious — a phrase that sounds gentle but carries weight..

Also.. they have many platinum albums.. and Frontman Raine Maida is known for.. writing lyrics inspired by psychology.. philosophy.. and literature.. Leaving meanings intentionally open — many songs feel emotional first.. literal second
That’s why tracks like Clumsy still hit even if you can’t fully explain them… hope you enjoy…
