Hidden Gems from the B-Side — ⛽️ FUEL (Week 22)

Falls On Me 🎵 Sunburn

Hey yall… thanks for joining me again…

So before Fuel was even Fuel…
they moved through a couple early names like…
“ReelTooReal”…
and “Small the Joy”…
before everything finally settled into place.

And right at the center of it all—

was Carl Bell.

Lead guitarist…
but more than that—the architect.

The one writing the songs…
lyrics… music… structure…
building the sound from the ground up…

and even producing along the way.

Because Fuel…
was never just a band…

it was Carl Bell’s vision—
brought to life through the voice of Brett Scallions.

Today—I’ve got two good ones for you 🎧🔥

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — ⛽️ FUEL (Week 21)

Hemorrhage (In My Hands) 🎵 Leave the Memories Alone

More Fuel… just for you…

I’m gonna be here a while… because… they’re incredible… and there’s just too many great songs… honestly… they’re one of my favorites… top 3 easy…

So here’s a cool recent story…

My uncle… he’s one of a kind…
musician… singer… painter… writer…
pilot… great cook… tells the best jokes… haha…
super funny… just a straight up… Rockstar Renaissance dude…

He’s dealing with a rare form of cancer…
and he calls me most every day…

So last time we were talking… music… bands…
he asks me—
“you know that band DIESEL?”

I said… nah… not ringing a bell…

He goes—
“yeah… DIESEL… they sing that song Hemorrhage…”

I said—
“Oooo… you mean FUEL bro…”

He pauses…
“…yeah… FUEL!” 😂

He said they’re awesome…

I told him—
yeah… you’re absolutely right…
and started throwing him a few more songs to check out from them…

So… here’s two of them…

🎵 Hemorrhage (In My Hands)
🎵 Leave the Memories Alone

Hope you enjoy…

Also… I’m easing you into them… right now you’re getting milk from the baby’s bottle…
later on… you can graduate to the red meat 🍖😋…

Also… Fuel had two different lead singers… over time… Brett Scallions and Toryn Green… Brett was first… Toryn came later… I’m a Brett fan… but Toryn is cool too… hemorrhage is Brett era… leave the memories alone is Toryn…

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — ⛽️ FUEL (Week 20)

Shimmer 🎶 Bad Day…

So today I’m moving on… FUEL anyone?…

Man… I’m so loaded up with music and bands… sometimes I just sit there like… who’s next?… there’s just too many…

But yeah… Fuel… one of my favorites.
They’re a little different… some songs are slower… easy… almost laid back… but when they decide to… they can come in hard and rock the absolute crap out of you.

I’ve seen them a few times… but here’s a cool one…

I lived in Leesburg, Florida from 2o16–2o21… little old house… about two blocks from downtown. Leesburg is known for Bikefest every year… bands playing all week long…

And I’m not kidding… I could always hear it all from inside my house… loud and clear.

So it’s 2o17… I’m laying on my bed one day… windows open… just chilling…

Then all of a sudden…

music cuts through the silence…

this band starts rocking… hard… sounding really good…

I’m laying there like… hold up… who is that?…

then it hits me…

duuuude… it’s Fuel !!! 😁🥳😎

So yeah… I just laid there… in my bed… and listened to their whole set that evening…

super cool.

I got two for you now…

🎧 Shimmer — Sunburn (1998)

🎧 Bad Day — Something Like Human (2oO0)

Shimmer is the song that put them on the map… these 2 are a little more chill… in coming weeks… I’ll let them rock harder for you… thought I’d take it easy on you for starters 😏…

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — Flyleaf (Week 19)

There For You 🎶 Cage On The Ground…

Before Lacey Sturm ever stepped on stage with Flyleaf, she had already lived through the kind of darkness most people only write about. As a teenager she battled deep depression and survived a suicide attempt… and what came after reshaped everything. Her faith didn’t become an image or a lane — it became the core of who she was. That’s why her voice hits different. It’s not just tone or technique… it’s survival, it’s prayer, it’s something real breaking through. A lot of those Flyleaf songs weren’t crafted for radio… they came straight from her journals, her struggles, her conversations with God. That’s why you feel them more than you just hear them.

What makes her story even more wild… she walked away from it all in 2012, right when things were peaking after New Horizons. No drama… no crash… just a decision to step back for her family and her calling. Most artists hold on tighter at that point — she let go. And when she came back, it wasn’t to pick up where she left off… it was to start fresh with her own solo career. Same intensity, same raw honesty… just even more personal and stripped down. That contrast you hear in her — the softness and the scream, the broken and the bold — that’s not a style she learned… that’s a life she lived.

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — Flyleaf (Week 18)

So I Thought ♬ Cassie

Hey yall… happy Sunday… today I have two more from Flyleaf for you.

Both of these songs carry a lot of emotional weight. Cassie was inspired by Cassie Bernall, one of the students killed during the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, and reflects on the courage of standing firm in faith even in the darkest moment. So I Thought looks at a different kind of struggle — that painful realization when someone you trusted turns out not to be who you believed they were. Together, they show two sides of Flyleaf’s writing: faith under fire… and truth after betrayal.

Hidden Gems From The B-Side.. Life Side (Week 9)

Tonic 🎶 Head On Straight 🎶 Lemon Parade…

Hey yall… so I have two more great songs from Tonic for you…

“Head on Straight”
• Album: Head on Straight
• Year: 2o02

“Lemon Parade”
• Album: Lemon Parade
• Year: 1996

And here’s some cool facts about the band…

• The name “Tonic” comes from music theory — the tonic is the home note of a scale.. They chose it because they wanted their songs to feel grounded.. centered.. and real…

• “If You Could Only See” became one of the most-played rock songs of the late ’90s.. but the band actually thought deeper tracks like “Lemon Parade” better represented who they really were…

• Emerson Hart (lead singer) wrote many of their songs while dealing with personal struggles — addiction.. recovery.. and relationships — which is why their lyrics hit with that raw… honest edge….

• They turned down being over-polished… Labels wanted them slicker… but Tonic pushed to keep their sound emotional and imperfect — part of why they connect so well with listeners who love real feeling over radio gloss…

• They reunited after a long break because fans never stopped asking for them — and when they came back… they kept the same heart instead of chasing modern trends…

I hope you enjoy 😉 `.°~
