Hidden Gems from the B-Side — Matthew West (Week 26) 🎧

The Motions 🎶 Stop the World

Life really flies by… fleeting in a way that makes everything else fade for me… except the things that matter…

and I’ve concluded… these “things” are people…

not just my family and friends… but everyone.

because who am I… if I only care about and love those inside my own little circle?

Do others not have circles?

They do.

Let’s get inside them… you and me.

Hidden Gems from the B-Side ⛽ — Fuel (Week 26)

I Should Have Told You 🎶 Angels Take a Soul

So… it’s 3am… here at my spot on earth… and I’ve been listening to Fuel for the past hour… figuring out which songs I want to use…

I decided on the album “Angels & Devils” from 2oO7… it’s the first album featuring lead singer Toryn Green… instead of Brett Scallions… and honestly… it’s a great one… loaded with badass songs…

I chose two for you…

🎶 “I Should Have Told You”
🎶 “Angels Take a Soul”

Former Godsmack drummer Tommy Stewart was announced as the band’s new drummer… but was unable to perform on the album due to other commitments… so Josh Freese and Tommy Lee performed drums in his place.

Also it’s cool how Toryn joined the band… there’s a bonus video about it below… check it out…

Also I have a famous friend who’s friends with Tommy Lee… well… he used to be my friend… we don’t talk anymore… story for another time…

Hope yall enjoy… I’m going to bed…

Happy 🎶 The Turnaround

What’s up yall… just want to say thank you… truly…
I appreciate your faithfulness and the support… always checkin’ my stuff out…

Matthew West is up again this week…
figured I’d dig a little deeper this time… pull out a couple real hidden gems…

I think he’s got a lot of ‘em… you just gotta go lookin’…
especially those early records… man, I really enjoy those…

Seems like most folks go straight to the radio hits…
and I get it… they’re hits for a reason… they’re great songs… I like ‘em too…

…but honestly…
it’s the lesser-known ones that hit me the hardest…
the ones tucked away a little…
those are the ones I keep comin’ back to…

Here’s two of ’em…

Happy 🎵
Happy 2oO3

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — ⛽️ FUEL (Week 22)

Falls On Me 🎵 Sunburn

Hey yall… thanks for joining me again…

So before Fuel was even Fuel…
they moved through a couple early names like…
“ReelTooReal”…
and “Small the Joy”…
before everything finally settled into place.

And right at the center of it all—

was Carl Bell.

Lead guitarist…
but more than that—the architect.

The one writing the songs…
lyrics… music… structure…
building the sound from the ground up…

and even producing along the way.

Because Fuel…
was never just a band…

it was Carl Bell’s vision—
brought to life through the voice of Brett Scallions.

Today—I’ve got two good ones for you 🎧🔥

🎵 Falls On Me — Natural Selection (2003)
🎵 Sunburn — Sunburn (1998)

I’ll be here a while with these guys…
hope yall enjoy 🔥

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — Drivin N Cryin (Week 18)

Honeysuckle Blue ♪ Straight To Hell

Ok yall… get ready for greatness.

If you don’t know these awesome dudes yet… you soon will.

I grew up in the same town as them and have seen them live many times over the years. They remain one of my all-time favorite bands — and one of the most underrated to ever come out of the South.

Atlanta’s own Drivin N Cryin formed in 1985 and quickly became one of the South’s most distinctive rock bands, blending Southern rock, folk storytelling, and punk-edge energy into a sound completely their own. Led by singer-songwriter Kevn Kinney, the band built a loyal following through heartfelt lyrics and powerful live performances.

Their 1989 album Mystery Road produced enduring fan favorites like “Honeysuckle Blue” and “Straight to Hell,” two songs that perfectly capture the band’s mix of grit, heart, and Southern storytelling.

Songs Featured

🎶 Honeysuckle Blue — from Mystery Road (1989)

🎶 Straight to Hell — from Mystery Road (1989)

These are two of their more popular songs… later on we’ll dig into the hidden gems.

Hope you enjoy.

Outlaw Roots — The Hank Jr. Legacy (Week 6)

Montana Cafe 🎶 Whiskey On Ice…

One thing I noticed growing up as a Hank fan — and still notice today — is that he’s known by a handful of songs that went full mainstream.. and people grabbed onto them… ones like… All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight.. Family Tradition.. A Country Boy Can Survive… and a few others.

He kind of got labeled by those songs — like that’s all he’s about.
But man… nothing could be further from the truth.

Once you dig in.. you find so much more —
beautiful love songs…
raw.. well-written.. poetic ones… many are deep… magnificent… also his voice is amazing on so many… in a way you don’t really hear on his more popular ones…
real depth that never got the same spotlight.

Today’s picks…

🎶 “Montana Café”
• Title track of the album Montana Cafe
• Released: 1986

🎶 “Whiskey on Ice”
• from the album High Notes
• Released: 1982

Hope you enjoy this little dive into the deeper cuts…

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — Life Side (Week 14)

Matthew Sweet — “Girlfriend” 🎵 “Sick of Myself” 🎶

Athens, Georgia is home to the University of Georgia… Go Dawgs! 🐾 — and it’s also one of the great music cities in America, birthing many iconic bands like R.E.M., The B-52’s, and Widespread Panic, just to name a few.. And this next guy… Matthew Sweet.

Matthew Sweet is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who became a key figure in ’90s alternative rock and power pop. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, he moved to Athens, Georgia to plug into that legendary scene before breaking through with Girlfriend (1991) — hooky, heartfelt guitar pop — and following it with 100% Fun (1995), featuring the self-aware anthem “Sick of Myself.” Classic melodies, honest emotion, zero filler.

🎵 “Girlfriend” — from the album Girlfriend (1991)

🎶 “Sick of Myself” — from the album 100% Fun (1995)

Hope yall enjoy this little trip back into some seriously good ’90s sound. 🎸
