Hidden Gems from the B-Side — ⛽️ FUEL (Week 22)

Falls On Me 🎵 Sunburn

Hey yall… thanks for joining me again…

So before Fuel was even Fuel…
they moved through a couple early names like…
“ReelTooReal”…
and “Small the Joy”…
before everything finally settled into place.

And right at the center of it all—

was Carl Bell.

Lead guitarist…
but more than that—the architect.

The one writing the songs…
lyrics… music… structure…
building the sound from the ground up…

and even producing along the way.

Because Fuel…
was never just a band…

it was Carl Bell’s vision—
brought to life through the voice of Brett Scallions.

Today—I’ve got two good ones for you 🎧🔥

🎵 Falls On Me — Natural Selection (2003)
🎵 Sunburn — Sunburn (1998)

I’ll be here a while with these guys…
hope yall enjoy 🔥

Carl Bell… the mastermind

  1. Awesome choices here. I also did some googling on Brett Scallions because I as intrigued by his name quite frankly. Lol it would be like me being Kiki Chives. Anyway he sounded pretty bitter when asked why he left Fuel. Didn’t sound like he was a fan of Carl Bell at the end?

    1. Haha @ Kiki Chives! 😁…
But yeah it was like just classic band can’t get along stuff… ’I’ll have to research it more also because I don’t know everything but apparently Brett left then came back after Toryn then like left again

    2. So also… Carl and Brett together do well… apart not as good… because Carl’s writing & music genius added to Brett’s voice and stage presence is what makes Fuel… it’s what the fans love… it’s not like they hate each other from what I’ve heard… but I think there’s like creative friction and business disagreements and maybe different vision… also at one point I think there was like 2 different versions of Fuel… both Brett & Carl using the name… I’ll have to check into that more but I think that was the deal… but they just have issues trying to balance everything and being on the same page and getting along

    3. I also read somewhere once where Brett said reason he left the first time was because the band environment was like a one man show and not how it should be… also I once read where Carl said… a band is like a marriage… while it’s tough sometimes… they just can’t make it work… I also read that both their personalities clashed

      1. Does this not sound like our convo from the other day with bands breaking up and change replacing the lead singers – à la Van Halen? Lol I guess it happens often! Lol

        Love this stuff! Great convo!

      2. Oh yeah… for sure… also similar type situations for both Fuel and VH how they were created formed… like how Eddie and Alex started “their band”… then same with Carl starting “His band” and both adding the signature voices that made it all happen and come together… so yeah… I get it… I see it… lol

        🤣 @ KiKi Chives
