🎙️Songs From the Bathroom #31

🎧 The Vandals & The Dixie Chicks Covers

I took a shower a little while ago, and I meant to bring my body lotion in the bathroom with me so I could apply it all over, but I forgot it.

Then I happened to see some lotion on the shelf and thought, “Oh well… I’ll just use it.

So I did.

I began to rub it all over my body. Then I started to catch a whiff of it, and I’m like, “Hold up… WTF is this stuff?”

So I looked closely at the old, worn label on the bottle, and it’s womens’ Bath & Body Works lotion. I believe it’s my sister’s that she left lol.

And it’s real perfumey.

It’s all I can smell right now, but I have to admit…

I smell and feel so pretty.

🎙️Songs From the Bathroom #30

🎧 Covers From Cake & Damn Yankees

Years ago, I was at a bar in Dallas Texas called The Quarter, hanging out with my famous friend and listening to this local band play.

They were right in the middle of their finale, “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond, and everyone in the place was singing along.

The band had an empty goldfish bowl sitting on the front of the stage for tips. Earlier, the singer had mentioned that he wished he had a cigarette.

So I was sitting about 20 feet away from the front of the stage, and I had a few drinks in me and a pretty good buzz going.

I stood up in the middle of the song, took a cigarette, and decided I was going to play a little basketball.

I aimed for that goldfish bowl and took a jump shot.

That cigarette soared through the air on a high rainbow like arch…

and landed right in the bowl. 😂

The lead guy happened to see me do it, and he stopped singing and playing right in the middle of the song.

It just blew him away.

He looked over at me and says

“Bro, that was unbelievable!”

Haha

Then he picked right back up and finished the song.

😁😎🏀 🚬

🎧 Two Elton John Covers

You can teach someone to play an instrument or they can teach themselves and if the talent is there then they can become quite good depending on what they are willing to give to it.

But you can’t teach heart.

All you can do is tell them about it and it’s something they have to find inside themselves.

It’s a pouring out of yourself to the listener.

I’m not saying I have it but it’s what you want.

He said, “Drifter, can you make folks cry when you play and sing? Have you paid your dues? Can you moan the blues? Can you bend them guitar strings?” He said, “Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside? ‘Cause if you’re big star bound, let me warn ya, it’s a long, hard ride”

🎙️Songs From the Bathroom #21

🎧 Covers from Sister Hazel and Tonic

When I was a teenager, playing and singing, I would go for hours and hours alone in my room. I was passionate about it, and it brought me so much joy, peace, and healing.

Then I got older, and drugs and alcohol entered the picture. And people. Things changed.

Then, I kind of forgot about secular music for a while and had my Christian music ministry. Toward the end of that, I just felt burned out and dealing with these ongoing heavy things, it made me lose the fire.

So I quit playing for a handful of years and wasn’t sure I’d ever play again.

Well, I started playing again this year, as some of you know, and it’s just been amazing for me.

I feel like that kid again.

…

Here’s 2 songs that are the epitome of great hidden B-side gems. I just recorded these tonight, a few hours ago.

Wanted It To Be by Sister Hazel — 1996

Knock Down Walls by Tonic — 1999

Hope yall enjoy.
Thanks for listening.

🎧 Covers From Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Tesla

I share some of my blog posts on my other platforms and with people I’m connected to in ministry. I’ve had quite a few people ask me about what happened to me with the crossroads thing, so I decided to share the story in an audio recording.

I also added 2 songs I just recorded, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and “Love Song.” I hope yall enjoy them, and thank you for your continued support.

Behind the Bathroom Door🎙🚻

I try and practice playing guitar every couple of days. Many times I’m trying to remember songs and solos I haven’t played in 20 to 30 years. I also like learning new songs every week or two.

I have a few recording apps I use and I’m still figuring them out, so a lot of times I’ll record my practice sessions so that I can go back later and tinker with all the settings on the apps and try and perfect the sound quality.

So here’s a lil behind the scenes in the bathroom. This is me practicing the Meat Puppets song “Lake of Fire.” You may remember Kurt Cobain performing it on the Nirvana MTV Unplugged album. Kurt was infatuated with the Meat Puppets. I’m a huge fan of theirs also. One of my favorite records to this day is Too High to Die.

This song led me down a rabbit trail and I ended up doing many of their songs and Nirvana too.
