So I Rule It

What are your best healthy eating habits?

A friend once told me years ago, “I don’t trust anyone that doesn’t eat meat,” and he was dead serious lol. I’ve never forgotten it, and sometimes I’ll say it jokingly, but I don’t really mean it. 😁

So my eating habits? I’m very disciplined. So much so that my friends and family are like, “How can you eat the same stuff all the time?” And it’s simple for me. I don’t live to eat, I eat to live. And to go even further with that, I eat for a purpose, and that purpose is to keep my body the way I want it.

So I have a high-protein diet, and I also mix in fruit and vegetables every day. And I eat the same things.

For breakfast most days, I’ll get my same little bowl and put a small amount of granola in it, then some plain Greek yogurt, which is 17g of protein per serving. Then I’ll cut up a banana and throw it in and add some dried cranberries. Occasionally, I’ll add different fruits, depending on what I have available.

Once in a while, instead of the yogurt, I’ll have a few eggs and maybe a piece of bread.

But as far as the yogurt goes, I only do the plain, Greek, unsweetened kind.

I can actually survive on one meal a day, and I’m hardly ever hungry in the morning or even by lunch. It’s usually late in the day before I get hungry, but I force myself to eat three meals a day because it’s better for me with my workout routine.

I work out every day except Wednesday and Sunday. Those are my rest days, and occasionally I’ll take an extra day off, usually Friday, if my body feels tired.

I’m in the best shape of my life currently. I look better today, and I’m way healthier and physically stronger than when I was younger because of how I eat and exercise.

A few hours after breakfast, I’ll do my protein shake. I do one scoop most days, which is 30g of protein, but sometimes I’ll double down on it.

Then for lunch, many times I’ll have something like cottage cheese and some fruit, maybe some nuts, or some eggs.

Later, at times, I’ll have another protein shake.

Then for dinner, it’s always between these three things: rice, baked potato, or pasta. Those are my carb choices. Then I’ll have a main protein source, which is meat, fish, or eggs. Normally, it’s chicken or turkey or tuna or eggs.

I don’t eat much red meat, although I love steak and brisket, but I only eat it every now and then. I love pork too, but I don’t eat it much either.

Then I always have a vegetable, and it’s usually broccoli, Brussels sprouts, or spinach every night haha.

Oh, and I drink mostly water. I stay away from sodas except maybe on a cheat day. I enjoy caffeine in the morning, so I usually have a cup of coffee, but lately I’ve been using pre-workout drink mix that contains caffeine, so I don’t have coffee on the days I use it.

Also I use mostly olive oil or coconut oil.

I monitor my daily calories and protein, and I watch and balance my weight. I’m 6 ft tall and 200 lbs, or 91 kg, and this is where I want to stay. So if I go over 200 by a few pounds, then I reduce my eating for a few days until I drop back down. And vice versa, if one day I weigh in and I’m around 195–197, then I increase my calories for a few days. I have a fast metabolism that allows me to easily manage this.

I don’t eat junk food or sweets, except maybe once every two weeks I’ll have like a cheat day where I’ll have some apple pie or a piece of cake or something. And sometimes I’ll order pizza or Chick-fil-A just to break the monotony of my food routine. Oh, and I do get a sweet tooth sometimes during the week, and when that happens, I’ll have a spoonful or two of peanut butter.

Don’t get me wrong, I like food, and I like to eat and cook and stuff,

but I refuse to be ruled by it or anything for that matter.

So I rule it.

Winners and Losers

The Field That Raised Me…

What are your favorite sports to watch and play?

Sports have always been a huge part of my life. They’ve been there for as long as I can remember. I come from a long line of athletes. My grandfather even had an opportunity to pitch for the Detroit Tigers, but he chose to serve in World War II instead. My father was a great athlete too, and he was also my coach growing up, teaching me the game—and a lot about life—along the way…

I love a lot of sports, but my two main ones are American football and baseball. I played Little League all through my childhood and into my teens. I didn’t just throw on a uniform and participate—I excelled. I was a star, haha. I’m normally pretty humble, but I want to be accurate here so you can feel what I’m putting down 😅 I was mainly a pitcher, but in between starts I played shortstop and left field, doing whatever my team needed… I also hit for power and average.

In little league.. I once made an insane diving catch in left field to win the game… the crowd went nuts… bum-rushed me and carried me off the field on their shoulders cheering haha…

Sports were where I learned who I was when things got hard…

I kept it going into junior high and high school, playing both baseball and football. On the football field I lined up at quarterback, wide receiver, and at cornerback on defense, and I excelled there too. The dream was always to try and go pro in baseball, but along the way I got pulled into the music scene and ended up chasing that route instead. Even then, I never really left sports behind. I kept playing, jumping into league softball over the years and staying connected to the game any way I could.

As far as watching sports, my heart stays close to home. I love the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, and when it comes to college football, I’m a huge Georgia fan—Go Dawgs! Major League Baseball, the NFL, and college football are my mainstays, but I also enjoy basketball and golf, both playing and watching. Sports have always been more than just games to me. I’m thankful I grew up the way I did, grateful for the chance to play, I miss them days…

1 Corinthians 9:24–26 (NIV)

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize… Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever…
