So these next two are my very first ones that I did in the bathroom, both are a little more lo-fi and raw, before I started using Lexis Audio Editor… and before I knew I’d be posting them for everyone to hear. 😁

  2. What you call raw recordings are important. I have The Beatles anthology albums, three, and the T.Rex (Marc Bolan) home recordings, around 180 songs included approximately. There are probably loads of artists that have their tapes and digital captures in these formats. These give massive insights to ‘raw energy’ in a soulful way. Captured and polished recordings for general release all came from experimental beginnings. And these songs, like your bathroom captures, ooze poignancy.

    I have done very similar when songwriting. Capturing what I like to call my ‘Warts and all’ experimental experiences. Have uploaded here to blog posts in order to simply show that anyone can express their musical experiences. Even singing acapella is great for one’s well being. Emotion, vocally and guitar rhythmically, can be captured in these adventures which could have been forever lost if the sessions were never recorded. You can hear the emotional content in your voice here. So…..it’s always worthwhile to keep on doing what you’re doing.

      1. I always listen to whole songs. I appreciate the person’s commitment to actually contributing and sharing their songs and musicianship. It would be great to see more bloggers uploading their music. The Beatles anthology releases are very early recordings and probably studio recorded. Marc Bolan recorded at home. But there are experimental studio recordings on that album too. Always love that stuff to be honest.

Oh my bad Gray… I read it wrong earlier about the Beatles home recordings 😄… that reminds me, I had a music book called “The Beatles Complete Scores” it was thicker than a Bible and it was white with black writing on the cover and it was a hardback and fit inside a hard sleeve. It had every Beatles song and had the chords,tabs,piano,bass… it was the coolest. Cost me $100 back in the early 90s and I no longer have it today 😦 did I tell you already about the book? I think I may have… if so sorry for repeating myself 😁

    1. It was by chance I found this reply Bryan. My notifications hasn’t shown that it exists. It was only because my comments to you here was liked by two of your followers. So when I tapped into it, your Beatles book comment was then evident. I now wonder if more of your return comments are not showing up in ‘Notifications’.

      Also, your likes on my WP uploads often show up in my email Spam folders. Strange because they actually do come through to Notifications. Confused as to why this is happening.

      No you aren’t repeating yourself Bryan re: the songbook. I have a few Beatles’ songbooks. But hardly use them in earnest. In the amazing Disney Get Back movie where Peter Jackson brings us six hours of the Let it Be time sessions, they talk of sheet music. They chat about how chords to songs are often wrong. I have played songs from some of the books, and sure enough, it’s a struggle to sing along to them. That book of yours sounds awesome. Wonder if it is difficult to get a copy now!

      Because of writing my own songs, I tend to make up my own style and version of other artists songs. I don’t do many now, but back in the 1960s to early 1970s I sat and played many songs from my heroes. Even then it was a case of manipulating them to suit poor playing abilities. Just put them into a different vibe I suppose. I still can’t play six string guitar with any skill, so that’s why they were, still are, approached that way. You do a grand job with your renditions of songs. Singing songs from others that you give emotional impact with lyrics and melody is, as said, what you do well.

      If you have replied to a comment on one of your blogs at any time and I haven’t picked up on it, then sorry. I can check by reading if anything goes into Spam from my own site. But it could never be the case from others’ blog content. Strange happenings in the WordPress app settings can be a pain it seems. Cheers. 🙏🏽🍁🍂

      1. Oh wow that’s crazy about the comment situation for you. This happens to me on occasion also. For the most part I think you do well replying to me. I can’t think of any you’ve missed but I will I keep an eye on it now that I know

        So when I first started playing in 88 I had no books, just cd’s and cassettes and the radio. So I just covered songs as best as I could lol making up my own renditions of them.

        Later in the early to mid 90s, my local music store carried many books of different artists. So I went through a phase for a lil while where I was kind of collecting them

        But mostly I’m like you. I just listen to songs and play them how I feel and make them my own.

      2. Thanks for letting me know. It’s great that you have put your own impression into song capture. That way it allows development into your own unique sound and style. When playing pubs and clubs in our very first band, we would listen to the songs closely and work them out too. Then I started writing songs for us to play and then, gradually, most of our set contained original songs.

        Thanks for liking my music too. I am my own worse critic. But accept now that songwriting and music is just fantastic therapy. Also, keeps the mind alive. So continue due to that aspect. Rather like journalling or hitting the road with a VeeDub Bus. They all make up for a stress free life. Well, that’s if the VeeDub doesn’t play up!

      3. You’re welcome. Yeah I know many who do covers a lot of times try to play them exactly how they sound originally. For the most part with me I’ve tried to avoid that over the years because I tend to lose the “me” that I’m trying to add to it 😁

        I admire your song writing abilities. As I told you before, although I love to write, I often had trouble writing songs back in the day. There is something I do though, I will come up with a beat or rhythm on guitar and totally freestyle and make up words as I go in the moment. This I do on occasion and a lot of times they are funny songs but sometimes they are serious

      4. Nice reply Bryan. Cheers for this. If you are already creating your own excursions into making your own song sounds, it is but one small step to getting a song together. As the Buddhist saying goes, ‘A journey begins with one small step’.

        Also, it’s nice getting feedback on songs that you have written. It brings a bit of joy into realising that others can relate. It means you are not alone in any type of experience over life. Teenage years to older life. We all have common threads. So in a way, with your lyrics and response to them, it is a sharing of recognised events and thoughts. Because the lyrics, and melodies, come from your own experiences, it then provides a calming quality to life. Like journal writing.

        Growing up and growing into life, there is both the quirky and obscure nature to lyrics which are fun. Then there are the ones that truly resonate. ‘I did that!’ ‘That happened to me!’ type scenarios. I suppose music just speaks to us all and gives us time to reflect. And also allows us to let off steam.

        Yup. VeeDubs, guitars, vintage fountain pens, vinyl and film in cameras too. Vintage rocks. Cheers. 🙏🏽

      6. Yes. A good day thanks. Just got the Goose/Swan neck kettle out of the VeeDub for a pour over coffee brew indoors. Usually better than a French Press brew that way. Listening to a couple of albums by a band called The Flys. They were around at the same time we were playing in Coventry, England. Not close mates, but we had some good chats together. They are worth a listen.

        So it’s very much a day similar to your own. Chilling out. 🙏🏽

      8. I used to chat a lot with Dave Freeman of the Flys. His mum owned the Health Food shop we lived above. Angie, my wife, eventually worked in that shop full time. Hence why she now, many years later, has her own Wholefood Shop here in Wales.

        Dave wrote No More I Love You’s which Annie Lennox recorded. The Flys were an amazing band. Great songwriters. Fun times back in those days. But a rock star! Nah. Too timid. 😊 Cheers.

      10. What you do yourself Bryan is cool. You grab your guitar, you speak of the importance of what it gave to you in life and you play without concern as to presenting what you love to do. It’s that natural approach that brings about a certain relaxation in your presentation. No contrived and pretend results. Just honesty.

        I preferred Eddie Reader around that time of Annie Lennox. She was one of Annie Lennox’s backing singers before striking out on her own. I liked Alison Moyet too.

        As an older guy now, happy in his life and just playing and singing for fun, music is now a glorious journey of therapeutic importance. Far different from the dreaming big as I was once upon a time was as a naive Youth.

        But then, there are so many other things that life offers that have glorious status too. If you are Mindful of all things, have no projected pride in what you do, simply be kind to others and treat others as you want to be treated yourself…..that’s enough to be honest. Everything else seems to fall into place if these principles are followed.

        Cheers for the big up’s Bryan. Tomorrow I shall put on my tip top hat and become the wannabe rockstar dreamer again. If only for a couple of hours. 😄 Cheers. 🙏🏽

    1. Thank you 😁 I appreciate the kindness and support. Haha @ big fan. You mean the tree one? The pic doesn’t do it justice. It’s just incredible. You should see it in person. I’m 6ft, 200 lbs in the pic and my wingspan with my hands open like that is almost 6ft… so that kind of gives you an idea of the width of that thing also the limbs and canopy or whatever just aren’t captured fully

      2. Indeed we are small compared. If I remember correctly, i remember reading somewhere that the tree is 300-500 years old… for some reason I was thinking that we were able to tell exactly how old one is but apparently not with this one lol
