What My Mornings Look Like…

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

— the first hour, and then some

So… once my dreams let go
and morning rolls around…

I open my eyes—
and I’m instantly happy.

I’m glad a new day has begun for me.

I thank God…
tell Him I love Him…
just chill for a moment—
embracing His love for me.

Then I usually lay there for maybe ten minutes…
eyes open… just thinking.

Then I reach over—grab my phone…
reply to my girlfriend’s texts…

They’re always there waiting on me.

She’ll send a photo she took…
or a piece of her art…
a scripture she picked out just for me…
along with her words…

So Supergood to wake up to this…

After hygiene stuff—
I head to the kitchen… get my coffee…
make my way to the couch…

Start my morning devotions…

Two different ones I read…

“Streams in the Desert” — by Lettie Cowman
“My Utmost for His Highest” — by Oswald Chambers

Both from the 1920s…
both deep…
in different ways.

One poetic…
one piercing.

I read…
sit with it.

Think about it.

Then I pray…

I talk to God for a while—
real talk.

Then…

I shut my mouth.

I listen.

To what He has to say…

After that—
headphones on…

I open up YouTube Music
Choose something… then just let it go…

A mix of Christian and secular

Then comes one of my favorite parts—

I grab my guitar.

I try and learn one new song a week, sometimes more

Right now I’ve been learning…

“Infra-Red” — by Three Days Grace
Next up… “Fine Again” — by Seether

Most times…
I don’t use tabs…
don’t look up chords…

I just listen…
play what I hear.

Learning the lyrics are the main thing…
the guitar part I make my own…
in my own style…
usually…

I’ll jam for a while…
have some fun with it…

then it’s back for more coffee ☕️

Headphones back on…

Then I check in—

My ministry platforms…
my YouTube…
my blog…

I respond to people…
read what others are sharing…

I’m not a big commenter—
but I show up lol

Then later I think on…
pray on…
whatever I want to write or post…

or if it’s time for one of my weekly series posts—
I’ll do that…

post on my other Christian platforms…
make a YouTube short sometimes.

Then I hit my workout.

Every day—
except Wednesday and Sunday.

After that—
protein shake…
something to eat…

And yeah…

That’s been my mornings lately.

I’ve been on leave from work for about a month now…

So right now—

My job?

Is just having awesome days 😎

Also… at night… I read the Bible and whatever other book I’m reading… right now it’s Hemingway’s memoir “A Moveable Feast”

After I read… I listen to more music… then I spend a good amount of time praying for others… then I sleep…

Menuchah מְנוּחָה — Lish Victory… the sound of rest 🎶

Isaiah 40… the war is over

My friend Lish… from one of my Christian social media platforms… wrote this song…
I think it’s beautiful…

give it a listen…
check out her YouTube channel…
SUBSCRIBE if you like and help support her…
she’s just getting started…

these are her words below 👇

Lish Victory

If you like discovering new Christian music, I wrote this song called Menuchah.
Menuchah is the Hebrew word for rest… tranquility… a resting place.

In Isaiah 40, God declares that the war is over.
He also shows the fragility of us… even the strongest struggle in this fallen world.

But because of Him… we can rest.
We can be strengthened.

I hope you like it…
the writing process was a breeze…
as if the Holy Spirit took the pen.

My Love for Scripture… Where I Really Live

My Identity in Christ… ✝️

So I love reading…
as many of you do…

My one constant read—
is the Bible.

Then I usually have another book going at the same time…
but Scripture… that’s been with me almost 45 years now…
since I was a kid.

I love the theology of it…
the depth…
the layers…

Hermeneutics—
that’s really my thing with it.

Breaking it down…
understanding what it actually says…
not just what it sounds like.

Honestly though…

You can read and know things all day long—
but if you don’t apply what you’ve learned…

then what do you really have 🤷‍♂️
like… what did you gain…?

I’ve got other platforms where that’s all I do—
strictly Christian content…
just digging into Scripture… piece by piece…

But this blog—

This is different.

This is where I write about my life…
my past…
things I’m dealing with…
things I’m learning…

It’s an outlet.

A place where I don’t have to perform…
don’t have to impress anyone…

I just get to be me.

So… just because yall don’t see that other side of me much…
I figured I’d share a little of it here.

Some recent thoughts…
from my other platforms…

……………………………………………

📖 Romans 13:14
“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh…”

📖 Galatians 3:27
“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

I love these two…

Because that phrase—“put on”—

In the Greek… it’s ENDUO.

And it literally means…

To clothe yourself…
to wear…
like a garment.

So when Paul says “put on Christ”…

He’s not talking about casual belief.

He’s saying—

Wear Him…
Be covered in Him…
Let Him be what people see when they look at you…

Like putting on a coat—
except it’s identity…
not fabric…

Visible identity.

That’s powerful.

Super cool stuff 🙌 ✝️

……………………………………………

📖 Ephesians 2:10
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works…”

This one’s great…

That word “workmanship”—

In the Greek… it’s POIEMA.

Yeah…

Like we are God’s work… His Poem

Which means—

You’re not random…
not an accident…
not just out here trying to figure it all out…

You’re crafted.

Intentional

Spoken into existence with meaning…

Not mass produced—
handmade…

By God.

Prepared beforehand…
for something good…

So yeah—

You’re not just surviving this life…

You’re His poema.

And that’s a whole different way to see yourself… 🤷‍♂️✝️❤️‍🔥🙌

Thank you all for being here… seriously…
Yall are a blessing.
May God bless you…
and keep you…
always.

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — Flyleaf (Week 20)

Fully Alive 🎶 All Around Me

Happy blessed Sunday yall…

I’m sticking with Flyleaf a little longer.

These next two — “Fully Alive” 🎶  “All Around Me” 🎶 — (acoustic versions)

are both from their debut self-titled album
Flyleaf (2005)…
and man… that record was something special.
Made fans out of a whole lot of people… me included.

Somewhere along the way I drifted from Lacey Sturm for a bit…
but about a year ago, I found my way back —
right around the time I started my YouTube channel “bryanforchrist.”

All I do over there is make Christian music shorts —
so if you’re ever bored one day… come check me out.
I’ve got a few Flyleaf ones up there too 🎶

And quick tip — on all my shorts, you can get to the full song:
tap the little thumbnail in the bottom right…
then when it redirects, go up top left and tap the larger thumbnail —
that’ll play the whole track.
It can look a little tricky at first… but once you see it, you got it.

Now as much as I love Flyleaf…
I’ve never actually performed any of their songs myself 🎤

That’s about to change.

I think this week… I’m gonna learn “Circle” 🎶
(from their second album Memento Mori — 2009)…
it’s probably my favorite from them… hard to choose though

So again… thank y’all for listening… for reading…
I appreciate you — and I’m always thinking of you 🙏

Have a blessed day…

Outlaw Roots — The Hank Jr. Legacy (Week 12)

Gonna Go Huntin’ Tonight 🎶 Here I Am Fallin’ Again

Hey yall… got two more good ones for you…
The first one’s fast… the second one slow…

As I was selecting the songs for this one… I was reminded of my first Hank concert…
I think I was 14… it was me… my best friend Joey… my good buddy Chris… and two neighbor girls… April and Ashley…

Ashley’s mother was a police officer… and she and the chief of police for our town took us all to the concert that night…

It was a crazy and fun night… I won’t go into details… other than just to say… everyone had a lil too much to drink… including Hank…

And I ended up spending the night at Ashley’s house… Got the T-shirt!

My mother was not happy the next day… cuz she was worried about me…
…but you know how us Gen X kids used to roll 😎…

So let’s get to the music…

🎵 Gonna Go Huntin’ Tonight
— Strong Stuff — 1983

🎵 Here I Am Fallin’ Again
— Habits Old and New — 1980

Oh! I also included a pic of the mountain Hank fell off… with a lil diagram… showing the path of his fall… just a miracle that he survived (it was 1975… Ajax Mountain near Wisdom, Montana)

Hope yall enjoy

Hidden Gems from the B-Side — ⛽️ FUEL (Week 20)

Shimmer 🎶 Bad Day…

So today I’m moving on… FUEL anyone?…

Man… I’m so loaded up with music and bands… sometimes I just sit there like… who’s next?… there’s just too many…

But yeah… Fuel… one of my favorites.
They’re a little different… some songs are slower… easy… almost laid back… but when they decide to… they can come in hard and rock the absolute crap out of you.

I’ve seen them a few times… but here’s a cool one…

I lived in Leesburg, Florida from 2o16–2o21… little old house… about two blocks from downtown. Leesburg is known for Bikefest every year… bands playing all week long…

And I’m not kidding… I could always hear it all from inside my house… loud and clear.

So it’s 2o17… I’m laying on my bed one day… windows open… just chilling…

Then all of a sudden…

music cuts through the silence…

this band starts rocking… hard… sounding really good…

I’m laying there like… hold up… who is that?…

then it hits me…

duuuude… it’s Fuel !!! 😁🥳😎

So yeah… I just laid there… in my bed… and listened to their whole set that evening…

super cool.

I got two for you now…

🎧 Shimmer — Sunburn (1998)

🎧 Bad Day — Something Like Human (2oO0)

Shimmer is the song that put them on the map… these 2 are a little more chill… in coming weeks… I’ll let them rock harder for you… thought I’d take it easy on you for starters 😏…

My Parents… The Strangest Love I’ve Ever Seen

I’ve been texting with a friend all day…
in between living life…

We got on the topic of this life of mine…
and somehow… my parents came up.

After telling him some things…
I started thinking…

Man… my mom and dad are strange.
Not them as people…
their relationship.

It’s just… different.

They’ve known each other forever… all their lives…

I mean since they were little bitty kids.
I believe… since babies.

They lived next door to each other.
Their families were close.
Friends… neighbors…

They grew up side by side.

Playmates…
then boyfriend and girlfriend as kids…
carried it through elementary school…
into high school…

They were in love.

They got married.
Planned to have me…

Succeeded 😎

I was born… started spinning around this earth… like everyone else.

Then when I was 5…
they got divorced.

Just like that.

It wasn’t some huge dramatic thing either…

they were just bored.

Like they realized
they were all each other had ever known…
thought they were missing something out there.

So they walked away.

Not long after…

they both met other people.
Quick.

Got married again.
Both of them.

Both of those marriages…
were disasters.

Five… six years later…
both divorced again.

But here’s the part that always got me…

through all of it…

they stayed close.

I mean really close.

Always together.

They’d hang out…
go to movies…
go shopping…
even take trips together.

Like… what?

It was like they were married…
but weren’t.

They got along better than most married couples I’ve ever seen.

Then one day… when I was 24…

they told me they needed to talk.

Both of them.

Sat me down in the living room…

real serious.

And I’m thinking…

Alright… what is this?
Who’s sick?
Is it cancer?
Who died?
What’s going on?

They’ve never done this like this before.

So they ask me…

“How would you feel…
if we got married again?”

“Sure! I’m all for it!
I want yall happy!”

“So who’s the lucky man and woman?
Double wedding or something?”

Nah…
Not even close.
Bruh…
They meant each other.
Again.

Now you’d think I’d be happy, right?

That’s my mom and dad.

But honestly?

It was weird.

Most of my life…
they were just friends.

They had been married to other people…
dated other people…

but somehow always stayed close.

So I gave them my blessing.

Even though it felt strange.

First time I saw them kiss…
it creeped me out… 😁

So they got married.

Bought a big house.

Within about six months…

everything started falling apart.

Arguing all the time.
Couldn’t get along.

I remember thinking—

What happened?

Where did that friendship go…
the one I watched my whole life?

They stayed married another ten years.

Barely speaking.
Sleeping in different rooms.

Both… unhappy.

Then they divorced.

Again.

Not long after that…

they became best friends.

Again.

Now I just have to laugh.

Like… you’ve got to be kidding me.

But I will say this—

I’ve learned a lot about love from them.

What to do…
what not to do…

One thing I know for sure…

When it comes to love…

I’m nothing like them.

And if I didn’t look like both of them…

I’d swear I was adopted.
