If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which one would it be? Why?
Words are overrated…
so misused…
I say ban them all…
just to piss off
folks that talk out their necks…
the ones
that love to play with them—
trying to impress…
without ever feeling
a thing…
anyone caught using them
must clean truck stop restrooms
while eating tacos…
for an entire day…
I think I’ve said too much…
I haven’t said enough… 🤌

Even when we’ve said our piece,
the “not enough” still hangs there—
a weight for those who play it fair.
Because nothing hits quite as hard
as the silence we’re forced to share.
Beautifully said, Aparna. That last line hits—🔥 `’.,°~
What a sharp, playful rebellion against language itself.
I love the irony here using words so powerfully while declaring them overrated. That tension is what makes this piece breathe. It’s not really about banning vocabulary; it feels like a protest against emptiness… against language that performs but never feels.
The line about “trying to impress… without ever feeling a thing” lands hard. That’s the real target, isn’t it? Not words but disconnection. Not speech but speech without soul.
And that closing turn
“I think I’ve said too much…
I haven’t said enough…”
That’s the quiet truth of every honest writer.
If I had to ban a word? Maybe “fine.”
Because it hides everything that actually needs to be said.
But then again… maybe words aren’t overrated.
Maybe sincerity is underrated.
Powerful piece. It made me smirk and think.

You absolutely nailed it bro! 😁 I was being semi facetious… and of course I love words… but I do like to keep them at a minimum. with feeling. that’s just me. but yes.. was definitely aimed toward the heart behind them… great comment! Thank you
Was totally a protest against emptiness 💯
What a bold, witty, and delightfully rebellious piece! I love the playful irony of using words so skillfully to question their very value—it gives the poem a sharp, clever edge. The humor, especially that unforgettable “penalty” line, made me smile, while the underlying message about authenticity versus empty talk really lands. Brilliantly expressive and thought-provoking—thanks for sharing such a striking creation!
Haha, appreciate you catching the edge in it. If it made you smile and question things, it did its job. thank you brother. Always a pleasure reading your comments
Haha, I’m really glad you said that—because it absolutely did both. It gave me a smile and something to think about, which is honestly the best kind of writing. That sharp edge you mentioned is what makes your voice stand out; it lingers in the mind long after reading.
Thank you brother 🙏 😊
Good evening.
Have a restful night.
The third in the last stanza is very powerful!
Thank you Hazel, for reading it. I’m glad it spoke to you.
My pleasure, loia
This was bloody wonderful
Thank you : )
Oh such facetious wit… I love the play with words..very cleverly fone, lol.
A tongue in cheek rant. 🤣
Thank you, friend—glad you’re feeling my words 😅
Glad I found your blog. Always fun to meet a fellow wordsmith unafraid to have a little rant now and again. Nigel, is the name. Ill pop round from time to time and interact. Keep writing, dude. The world needs us.
Yes indeed brother.. I’m glad we found each other.. I’m definitely unafraid on here 😁… I like to shake things up and keep people on their toes… by just being myself lol… thank you for the encouragement
You’re welcome. I appreciate authenticity .
by the way Nigel.. I’m Bryan.. nice to meet you
It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir.
You too brother 😎
Maybe it’s not the words that need banning, just the emptiness behind them.
The right words, felt deeply, hit harder than silence.
Performance ruins them.
Very true 😊 yes let’s keep our words 😁… thank you.
😁 It’s hilarious, but undeniably true. Anyone using words that they don’t mean.
Look, the truth is that if the intelligent and genuine ones keep being quiet, the wicked and foolish ones will keep ruling. If the most talented ones keep having fear, the bold but unintelligent will keep having more opportunities to do all the same. If you are a bystander to a crime and you say nothing, you’re worse than the one who committed the crime.
Well said, and thank you for putting that into words. Appreciate you adding your voice here.😊
How about an abomination (if you are Canadian you will know why too!) of an xtra large poutine (fries, gravy and cheese curds) with ketchup and maple syrup from La Belle Province!!
😁… I feel you…! thank you for sharing
Yes!! And offenders or rather REPEAT offenders MUST eat everything with their fingers!!!
Hahaha… note to self… do not become a repeat offender 😅
